An experienced fund manager with over 14 years experience directing open-ended funds and private equity investments in resources.
In January 2004, founded Sector Investment Managers Ltd, a U.K., FCA-authorized and regulated investment advisory company and launched the Junior Oils Trust which he manages. The fund focuses its investments in smaller oil and gas exploration and production companies avoiding political and pure exploration risks.
In August 2006 founded the Junior Energy fund, a hedge fund with a wider resources-focused investment mandate. This fund was among the top 5 best performing resources hedge funds in 2007 and closed in 2012 returning all capital to shareholders in the belief that commodities had entered a prolonged downturn but being net short was not a viable investment strategy.
In September 2009 launched the Junior Gold Fund. This fund invests in smaller gold and silver mining companies in safe political territories. Most of the portfolio companies have growing production, sustainable operating structures and active exploration programmes that could add materially to reserves.
In addition to these two listed funds, manages segregated accounts and portfolios for HNW investors.
Prior to setting up Sector Investment Managers Ltd, accumulated 14 years investment banking experience with major banks in London concentrating on natural resources. During that period worked for 10 years with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, responsible for structuring the bank’s equity and debt investments in commodities, oil transport, food processing and retail projects in Russia, Ukraine and the Balkans. Managed a Porfolio of EBRD assets in the Balkans, Russia, Ukraine and Central Asia, including corporate restructuring and debt recovering.
