Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (QMEA)

The Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (QMEA) is a non-profit organization that represents 1,200 individual members and 200 corporate members in Quebec’s mining sector.

The Association was founded in 1975 to increase mineral exploration in Quebec and support the development of entrepreneurship in Quebec. The Association des prospecteurs du Québec saw the opportunity to stimulate exploration truly specific to Quebec. Now, under the name Quebec Mineral Exploration Association, all players in Quebec’s mining sector rally around issues that remain just as relevant today. QMEA has a mission to promote sustainable, responsible exploration for mineral resources in Quebec and their vital place in the economy.

Certification according to the principles of sustainable development

QMEA collaborates with Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC), the organization responsible for the publication and implementation of the standard, as well as the certification of applicant companies.

The Standard applies to companies working in mineral exploration and wish to be recognized for their application of best sustainable development practices. Compliance with the requirements of a standard promotes strategic planning and risk management. Certified companies are better prepared in the event of legislative change and benefit from better relations with the various stakeholders, which promotes the social acceptability of projects and helps to reduce delays related to their activities.
