Gary O’Connor has over 35 years of experience in the mining industry and is currently CEO of Moneta Gold Inc. which is developing the 8.4 Moz Tower Gold project in Ontario, Canada. Previously he worked as Vice-President of Dundee Resources for 10 years, responsible for the technical due diligence of resource projects for investment for the corporation and managed funds. Gary was Vice-President, Exploration of Gabriel Resources Ltd and European Goldfields in Romania for 7 years covering the resource definition of the Rosia Montana and Certej gold deposits, the discovery of the Rodu-Frasin gold deposit as well as the definition of the Bucium Tarnita and Rosia Poieni Cu-Au porphyry deposits. Previously Gary worked as District Exploration Manager for Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold in Indonesia for 10 years, including the discovery of the Wabu Gold deposit, the drill out of the Duwagu and Komopa Cu-Au porphyries, the Etna Bay Cu-Au porphyry discovery, the discovery of the Mamoa Au-Cu porphyry and the drill out of the Siduarsi Ni-Co laterite deposit. While with Freeport Mr. O’Connor worked on the due diligence and discovery of a major gold fraud on the Busang gold “deposit” in Kalimantan by Bre-X.
Before joining Freeport, Gary worked for BP Minerals, Pelsart and Amax Gold in SE Asia, South West Pacific and New Zealand exploring the Macraes gold deposit, Martha Hill gold deposit and the Masupa Ria gold deposit in Kalimantan. He graduated from the University of Auckland in 1982 with a degree in geology, geophysics and environmental studies. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geology.
