Lead Innovation

Anglo American

Phil Newman is Lead Innovation for Anglo American and is responsible for Anglo’s open innovation program. Phil has a BSc in Physics and a MEng in Mining Engineering from McGill and he was a founding member of Golder PasteTec in 1996 and built paste plants for backfill and surface disposal across the globe.

 

Since joining Anglo American in 2015, Phil has been involved in numerous innovation breakthroughs from sensing to rock cutting, drilling to flotation and exploration to closure. Phil has been involved in the HDS project since its inception to first tailings placement which occurred in November this year.
