Assistant professor in the Engineering Faculty

University of Concepcion, Chile

Asieh Hekmat is currently an assistant professor in the Engineering Faculty at the University of Concepcion in Chile. She completed her PhD in Mining Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnics) in Tehran, Iran, in 2011.

After completing her graduate program, she embarked on a career as a mine planning and design consultant for an Iranian mining company. Simultaneously, she took on the role of a lecturer, teaching both graduate and undergraduate students at various universities in Iran. Her remarkable achievement was becoming the first woman to graduate in the field of mining engineering in Iran.
In 2014, due to the constraints on women in Iran, she made the life-changing decision to immigrate to Chile. Here, she pursued a postdoctoral program at the University of Chile, focusing her research efforts on gravitational flow in block caving mines. Subsequently, she transitioned to the University of Concepcion, where she is currently employed.
Asieh boasts over a decade of teaching experience, specializing in mine planning and design, mining equipment, and mining economics and finance. Throughout her career, she has supervised the successful completion of more than 50 undergraduate and graduate projects. She has also contributed significantly to the academic world, with approximately 40 papers published in international journals, symposiums, and conferences.
Notably, Asieh has taken the lead on various projects related to feasibility studies in mining, mine planning, and project management. Since 2019, she has shown a keen interest in the discovery of a new rare earth metal deposit in Concepcion. Her passion for this subject has led to collaborations with Alclara on environmentally friendly rare earth metal extraction projects. Asieh Hekmat's journey is marked by her unwavering dedication to both her students and her research pursuits, making her a trailblazer in the field of mining engineering.
