To honour industry legends who have passed this year, the Mines and Money Awards dedicated a special segment paying tribute to these individuals who, through the years, have helped grow, shape and drive innovation in the mining industry and help it transform into a source of betterment for the world.
Those honoured included:
Accomplished Geologist, Bradford Cooke, had over 50 years of metals and mining experience which saw him found the NYSE and TSX-listed company Endeavour Silver.
Mining engineer by background, Vincent Mascolo, the Founder and former CEO of Atlantic Lithium.
Ned Goodman, the Founder, and former CEO of Dundee Corp and DundeeWealth Inc. He was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2016 for his contributions and philanthropy.
Karen Poniachik, who left behind an impressive legacy, with her remarkable career in journalism and public service, acting as Minister of Mining and Secretary of State in Chile.
Daphne Mashile-Nkosi, the former Executive Chair of Kalagadi Manganese and Chairperson of the Women’s Development Bank Trust, who had experience in gender issues activism and encouraging companies to support poorer communities.
IGO Managing Director and CEO, Peter Bradford, who helped steer IGO into becoming an ASX 100 company and gender diversity & equality champion.
William (Bill) Hooley who played an instrumental role in the advancement of Anglesey and its Parys Mountain mine project.
Kristy Christensen was a pioneering female coal miner, who worked tirelessly to improve gender diversity in the industry for the next generation of female miners.
Nana Akua Ohene Adu worked with AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. as Senior Specialist/Project Manager for 21 years, before devoting her time to LEAP School to empower the youth.
Diego Temperley, a former President of AusCham Argentina, had an impressive 25-year-long career in investment banking and was a founding partner and MD of Natural Resources South Africa.
Western Australian mining legend, Ron Sayers, founded Ausdrill and grew the company into a billion-dollar mining services company with a single drill.
Lukas Lundin, who began Lundin Mining with his father Adolf in the 1990s, with Lukas’ strategic vision and drive, helped to foster the Lundin Group of Companies into the successful company it is today.

The late Lukas Lundin, former Head of the Lundin Group of Companies, is the recipient of this year's Lifetime Achievement Award. Lukas’ illustrious career included exploring, developing and producing a wide array of mineral and metals in over twenty countries worldwide, before sadly losing his battle with brain cancer. We would like to thank his son, William Lundin for accepting the award on his behalf.
