Coeur Mining ascends to S&P 400

Rising New York and Toronto-listed precious metals producer Coeur Mining is closing on another key milestone.

Coeur’s inclusion this month in the S&P MidCap 400 Index reflects its “growth and transformation into the sector’s only all-North American senior precious metals producer and a leading global silver company”, management said.

The company’s elevation to the benchmark S&P Dow Jones listing for mid-sized companies follows last year’s US$7.7 billion acquisition of New Gold, a deal said to signal a major escalation in the industry's race for scale and jurisdictional safety.

Coeur sold a record $2.1 billion of silver, gold and copper in 2025 and increased net profit tenfold to $586 million. Production guidance this year is 680,000-815,000 ounces of gold, 18.7-21.9 million ounces of silver and 50-65Mlb of copper versus 419,046oz gold and 17.9Moz silver produced last year.

Its current $16.6 billion market capitalisation reflects a c70% rise in its share price over the past 12 months.

Coeur CEO Mitch Krebs said last month the company’s seven operating mines all contributed to record first-quarter financial results this year.

“Our results were especially impressive given the quarter was our softest of the year as expected, with several first quarter-specific outflows totalling over $200 million and only 11 days of contribution from New Afton and Rainy River following the close of the New Gold transaction on March 20,” he said

“Starting with the second quarter Coeur is equipped to deliver on the full potential of our enhanced platform, built through a combination of investments in exploration and expansions and two well-timed M&A transactions.

“With our well-balanced platform of seven operations Coeur remains exceptionally well positioned as the sector’s only senior all-North America precious metals company and top-five global silver producer.”
