Ian Maxwell is an Operating Partner at Pacific Road. He is senior mining industry executive with over 30 years minerals industry experience at President level, in equity markets, greenfield and brownfield exploration, business development and project finance.
He was previously President BHP Coal, President of BHP Exploration; Managing Director and #1 rated mining equity analyst at Citigroup; and he has worked in Project Finance, Corporate Finance, Business Development and Exploration at Anglo American and Rio Tinto. He has worked in an advisory capacity with a number of NGO’s, principally around human rights risks in supply chains, and has consulted to a number of companies on material risk management with focus on tailings and heap leach facilities.
Ian has led operations, business development and exploration across most commodities in many countries, including Canada, USA, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Surinam, South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Angola, DRC, Burundi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Gabon, Liberia, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, UK, Austria, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Pakistan, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, PNG, Philippines and Australia.
Over his 30-year career he has developed deep experience in developing and operationalising strategies around corruption and human rights risks, indigenous rights and participation, tailings and environmental management, health and safety, diversity and disclosure, including with communities and governments around the positive impacts of mining.
